The pin badge is made of a goldish metal with enamel and represents a red Greek cross with flared rounded ends. In the center of the cross there is a superimposed relief composition – a tactical SWAT helmet over two crossed AK- 47s.
At the bottom of the badge, overlapping the blade of the cross, is the emblem of the 3rd Special Purpose Brigade of Belorussian Interior Troops – a snarling head of the lynx on a figured shield with a hilt up sword vertically placed behind it.
At the top of the pin badge, on the blade of the cross, there is a golden embossed inscription: “SPETSNAZ”.
On the back of the pin badge there is a screw for fastening it to the uniform.
The cross is a traditional form of military awards of the Orthodox peoples.
The red color is a symbol of strength and courage, the color of the headdress of the special forces Russian and Belorussian MIAs.
The ballistic helmet is a traditional element of police (OMON) equipment.
The Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK- 47) is a symbol of readiness to defend the Homeland. AK -47 without a rifle butt is the modification designed for Special Forces and Airborne Troops.
The shield and sword is a symbol of constant readiness for action to ensure the safety and armed protection of citizens.
The sword with a blade down symbolizes remembrance of the comrades laid in the struggle.
The lynx is a symbol of the commandos’ personal qualities. The lynx comes softly, attacks tightly and leaves quickly.
The Third Separate Brigade is a major reserve of the Internal Troops of the Republic of Belarus. The brigade consists of several battalions of special purpose and flying squads (SOBR).
During the Soviet period the servicemen of the Brigade participated in the elimination of the consequences of the accident in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the settlement of armed ethnic conflicts in the Caucasus.
The Brigade is the only military unit in Belarus, on the base of which the servicemen pass the qualification tests for the right to wear a maroon beret.
In Russia there is also an elite police squad of special purpose – “Rys”, whose symbol and emblem is the lynx.
The preparation of the commandos includes manual of various types of firearms and bladed weapons, fighting techniques, diving, mountain and parachute training.
The servicemen of the squad are able to pass dozens of miles loaded with weapons and equipment up to 60 kg, carry out combat missions for a long time in independent mode.
The squad includes several specialized divisions: industrial climbers, snipers, engineers, extreme drivers, frogmen, negotiators, etc.
Since 2000 the servicemen of Spetsnaz periodically go on survival expedition to various regions of the globe.
