The chest pin badge “Spetsnaz Expert Soldier” is a modern continuation of the Soviet pin badges: “Expert Soldier of the Soviet Army”, “Expert soldier of the Navy”, “Expert Soldier of the Air Force”, established on December 29, 1956.
The pin badge is awarded to soldiers, sailors, sergeants and warrant officers of the Special Purpose Forces, or Spetsnaz, of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to impeccable military discipline, who already have rewards for exemplary performance of duty, perfectly mastered their profession, received only good and excellent marks during the training period, provided excellent maintenance and operation of the weapons assigned, as well as other military equipment and property.

The edge of the shield is depicted as a curly gray stripe with bulging goldish rivets symmetrically arranged on it. At the top of the badge there is a disc covered with ruby-red enamel with the emblem of the Russian Armed Forces – a golden double-headed eagle with outstretched wings – in the centre. On the edge of the disc threre is a white enamel band with the inscription made golden letters: “Spetsnaz Expert Soldier”. In the lower part of the shield, respectively to the inscription of the pin badge, there is the image of the common emblem of Special Forces: black bat on the background of the stylized image of the grid of an optical sight.
On the back of the pin badge there is a screw for fastening it to the clothes.

The emblem of the Armed Forces is a golden double-headed eagle with outstretched wings, holding a sword (a symbol of the Fatherland) and a laurel wreath (a symbol of glory, victory and peace). On the eagle’s chest there is a crowned red shield with the image of a horseman spearing a dragon.
Special Purpose units (Spetsnaz in military jargon and in common parlance) are destined to neutralize and destroy terrorist organizations, perform special actions in the enemy’s deep rear, sabotage, and other complex missions.
Compared with any other military units, Special Forces are the military elite of any country.
