The commemorative pin is made of a goldish metal with enamel in the form of the traditional Russian warriors’ oval shield; in the blue field of the shield there is a vertical double-edged sword with a gold handle, piercing a black she-wolf, and a green crescent with nine stars inside; in the centre, over the blade of the sword there is the stylized emblem of the Russian Armed Forces – the golden double-headed eagle with outstretched wings. The shield is contoured with a wide red ribbon. On the ribbon there is a golden lettered text: “Veteran of the Hostilities in the North Caucasus.”
The commemorative chest pin is based on the emblem of Russian Armed Forces and the symbol of the separatist Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
The emblem represents the image of the golden double-headed eagle with outstretched wings, holding a sword in its right paw – the symbol of the protection of the Fatherland, and a laurel wreath in its left hand – the symbol of glory, victory and peace. On the eagle’s breast there is a shield surmounted with a crown. In the red field of the shield there is a horseman spearing a dragon.
