The goldish metal pin badge with enamel represents an oval laurel-and-oak wreath, intorted with a ruby-red ribbon.
At the top of the wreath there is the Spetsnaz emblem – a fist clenching an AK-47 machine gun against a stylized grid of a riflescope.
The emblem is crowned with a maroon (crimson) beret.
In the centre of the wreath there is an imposed tablet with two cuts on the edge and the inscription “SPETSNAZ”.
At the bottom there is an image of the crossed knife bayonet and scout knife, a buckle of a soldier belt with a five-pointed star and a figured red ribbon with the inscription “VALOR AND BATTLECRAFT”.
On the back of the pin badge there is a screw for fastening it to the uniform.
The image of a fist on the background of a five-pointed star is a symbol of unity, friendship and combat brotherhood. A Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK-74) is a symbol of readiness to defend the Fatherland.
A knife bayonet and a scout knife are the weapons for survival and hand-to-hand fight.
The riflescope is a symbol of special sniper preparation.
The maroon beret is the head gear of the Interior Troops Spetsnaz servicemen.
The laurel-and-oak wreath is a symbol of courage, force, firmness and valor, glory and eternal memory of the fallen.
The pin badge is awarded to the military personnel achieved high rates in combat training, having not less than 3 parachute jumps, faultless military discipline, and passed the qualification tests.
In some cases the pin badge is awarded to the persons who have shown special courage and heroism during performance of combat, special and training fighting tasks, and also made a big contribution to the training of staff and development of special investigation.
Berets of a certain color are a distinctive sign and pride of special purpose divisions: diversionary and airborne, air assault, reconnaissance, anti-terrorist.
Now the beret is a uniform headdress of the armed forces of the majority of the countries of the world.
Colors of berets of Russian Armed Forces:
The blue – Airborne Troops (VDV) and Special Troops of Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU).
GRU Special Troops is the only troops who can wear uniform of almost every type of the armies (airborne forces, signal troops, chemists etc.). It is connected with the raised level of secrecy in the places of the GRU Spetsnaz dislocation, in other words – it is a kind of camouflage. The most of the divisions of GRU Special Troops carry blue berets of the Airborne Troops.
The black – Marines, Special Purpose Groups of Police, Assault Units of Coastal Troops, Tank Troops.
The maroon (crimson) is characteristic for the detachments of Interior Troops Spetsnaz. The right to wear a maroon beret is given only after taking a standard test or as an award for special merits.
The green – reconnaissance. The right to wear a green beret is given only after taking a standard test or as an award for special merits.
The light-green is an element of the full dress uniform of the Board Guards.
The forest green (olive) – detachments of the Spetsnaz, intelligence of the MIA Interior Troops and Nuclear Engineers.
