The pin is made of metal with enamel in the form of the red Greek cross with expanding concave ends put over two crossed swords. In the center of the cross there is a round medallion with the emblem of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD); on the horizontal beams of the cross there is a relief text: on the right side – “For Service”, on the left – “In the Caucasus”.
For officers and ensigns, the pin is of goldish color. For the rank and file soldiers, sailors and sergeants the pin is of grey color.
The chest pin is based on the image of Russian historical award of 1864 – the cross “For Service in the Caucasus”. The stylized image of the “Caucasian” cross points at the historical connection of the times and glorious historical traditions of the North Caucasus Military District, being the successor of the Imperial Caucasus Army, in providing peace and stability in the region.
Crossed swords are the most common traditional symbol of the armed struggle.
The red color is the symbol of strength and courage, the traditional color of cloth used for military uniform of the ground forces.
The emblem of the ground forces shows belonging to Russian army. The emblem represents an image of a golden double-headed eagle with outstretched wings, holding a sword in its right paw – a symbol of the protection of the Fatherland, and a laurel wreath in its left hand – a symbol of glory, victory and peace. On the eagle’s breast there is a shield surmounted with a crown. In the red field of the shield there is a horseman slaying a dragon with his spear.
