The cockade is made of a goldish metal. It represents a red rectangular shield with a relief image of the USSR Coat of Arms with five golden sunbeams coming out of it.
The shield has pointed tip and head, and concave lateral sides. The edges are golden-contoured and have golden clincher-heads.
The central figure of the cockade is the USSR national coat of arms, which represents the hammer and sickle in sunbeams surrounded by wheat with the Globe on the background. In the upper part of the coat of arms there is a five-pointed star.
The red shield is the color of the USSR national flag.
The pencils of golden sunrays symbolize the sunshine of freedom and the triumph of communism.
The cockade is fastened with a clamper (or “the barbs”).
