In the Special Forces there is a tradition of passing the qualifying exam for the right to wear the dog tag of the detachment – the personal numbered metal plate with the symbol of the unit of special force.
After passing the exam the dog tag is awarded at the grand formation of the whole unit and automatically its owners receive the right to wear a special uniform.
The dog tag is made of stainless steel with enamel.
It is a relief image of the head of a bared-teeth lynx on a figured shield with a vertically hilt up sword placed behind it.
At the top of the tag there is an inscription on a red curly ribbon: “SWAT”.
At the bottom of the tag there is the motto: “DUTY, HONOR, FATHERLAND”.
Red color is a symbol of strength and courage, the color of the beret of Russian and Belarusian special forces soldiers.
The shield and sword is a symbol of constant readiness to ensure the safety and armed protection of citizens.
A down bladed sword is a symbol of remembrance of those who have died in fight.
Lynx is a symbol of the personal qualities of Special Forces soldiers. The lynx approaches softly, attack hard and leaves quickly.
A dog tag is a badge of a soldier with the information about its wearer, obligatory to wear in the majority of the armies. For the dog’s age the main purpose of the dog tag was to get rid of the notion “the Unknown Warrior” and to help in the first aid.
Today dog tags are used not only by soldiers. They are very popular as trendy accessory in “military” style, as various trinkets, adornments, mascots, amulets.
In its form a dog tag is a rectangular plate with rounded ends, with ribbed stiffener along the perimeter and pierced at the top for the cord, ring or chain.
The reverse side of the tag is supposed to put on engraving with personal information, memorial dates, verses, congratulations and other texts of your own choice.
The dog tag is supplied in complete with two strong ball chains – 23 5/8 inch and 2 7/16 inch, for the purpose of wearing it on the neck as an amulet or using it as a trinket for the bunch of keys, different fasteners on the clothes, purse, handbag, pouch, messenger bag and so on.
