St. George is the patron of the army. His image is used in the Russian state coat of arms, the emblem of the city of Moscow, and the emblem of the Armed Forces of Russia.
Image of St. George on a horse symbolizes the victory over the devil – “the ancient serpent”.
We see how the scorner, born of the inharmonious adultery of the beast and bird, birds and snake, crawled from darkness of the material world to the spiritual. The scoffer has the head and front legs of an animal, wings and hind legs of a bird, and a tail of the snake. Once in the spiritual world, he blasphemes the Lord. St. George is the defender of the Lord. Riding the white horse and bearing a spear, he does not kill the scoffer, but stabs his tongue, making it mute against the Lord.
