The figure of Our Lady is completely hidden by a gilded silver dress; only her face bent to one side and crossed arms are opened. On the head there are two crowns: Baroque – the Crown of the Queen of Heaven, and rocaille (rococo) – the crown of the Queen of Poland.
Our Lady is displayed at the moment of the Annunciation.
The Virgin pretends to stand surrounded by 12-stars on a large metal crescent under the icon.
The icon is equally revered by both Orthodox and Catholics.
The icon of the Theotokos of the Gate of Dawn is an ancient Orthodox sanctuary. It is one of the most beautiful images of Our Lady.
The cross and the crescent in the icon symbolize the sun and the moon: the cross stands as a symbol of Christ, called the “Sun of righteousness”; the moon in the Christian tradition symbolizes the Virgin Mary – ” a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars” (Revelation 12:1).
The time of the icon’s appearance is not known. They pray to it for the happiness of the couple and the protection of the family from the evil.
Each of the Eggs is unique because it is hand-painted, and all of its components are hand-made. Thus there are no existing absolutely identical copies of any of the Easter Eggs offered to your attention.
According to the Russian Orthodox tradition, all of the products offered (icons, pectoral crosses, candles, church plate elements) are sanctified in the Temple by sprinkling with Holy water.
