Product Description
Such an unusual gesture symbolizes attention, pain, compassion of Our Lady, who listens to the tearful pleas of the sick and afflicted.
Christ Child is holding a scroll with detailed text of the comforting prayer.
Each of the Eggs is unique because it is hand-painted, and all of its components are hand-made. Thus there are no existing absolutely identical copies of any of the Easter Eggs offered to your attention.
According to the Russian Orthodox tradition, all of the products offered (icons, pectoral crosses, candles, church plate elements) are sanctified in the Temple by sprinkling with Holy water.
“The Virgin of Assuage My Sorrows” is a version of the Eleusa (Tenderness) type, with the Mother’s head bowed to the Son.
In an early version Byzantine of the icon, Christ Child gently touches the Mother’s chin with His hand, since, according to the antique conceptions, the healers performed healing of the sick and afflicted by touching the chin.
When resorting to this icon they pray for deliverance from various bodily and mental diseases.
The miraculous power of the icon first showed itself at the end of the 17th century in Moscow, in the church of St. Nicholas, when a great lady was healed praying the icon.
“The Virgin of Assuage My Sorrows” is celebrated on February, 7 ( January, 25 in Julian calendar).
