In many military units since the Soviet epoch a man served in Airborne Troops was often called “Skull”.
The skull as it is means: I was close to death, and a beret (depending on its color) points out at the particular corps or hit squad.
“Totenkopf” is still one of the military emblems most widely used in several countries of the world.
The skull with crossed knives is often used by mercenaries during various armed conflicts.
Some units of the Russian Armed Forces, such as Special Forces, Airborne Troops, Marines, nowadays sometimes use the symbol of the skull in beret on their dog tags and tattoos.
Among bikers the skull commonly symbolizes bringing victory and protection from death.
There is a legend that whenever death comes, it puts its mark on the deceased – a skull, and if someone already has this sign, death thinks she has already been there and does not take the man away.
