The professionally sharpened flat ground blade made of thick 5/32 in (4 mm) 420J (425 mod) steel is mirror polished to a high lustre.
This particular model of Sterkh-2 fitted with a molded handle of black Elastron grooved to reduce twisting and increase leverage during hard use. The shape of the handle fits the hand, and the handle itself is molded around and into the tang in a way, which guarantees that even in case that the handle were to work its way loose, it could not come free of the tang.
The knife comes with a handsome hand made genuine leather sheath of the enclosed type, which is heavily treated to resist the elements and retain their form. The sheath completely encases the entire knife and obviously includes a belt loop.
The Sterkh (Siberian Crane) is a kind of white cranes nesting in the North of Russia. The Sterkh Kizlyar Knives series have co-opted the nobility and gliding lines of the bird.
The three models of the knife differ from each other only in the length of the blade. Sterkh-2 is the medium one. Its blade’s length is 5 9/16 inch (141 mm).
The straight blade has a slight convex bevel butt. Its shape is versatile enough to cope with the most work possible. The grinds come from the butt. In the section it is a flat wedge. When viewed from above, the butt also gently tapers to the tip. This form of grinding and the fine cutting edge of the blade provide excellent cutting characteristics.
The handle is very comfortable to grip it in various ways. The construction is very strong, since the shank of the blade is its continuation and runs the entire length of the handle.
The handle is made of Elastron G, a kind of rubber-plastic owing excellent anti-friction properties. Due to it, the work with the knife is perfectly safe, despite the absence of limiting stops on the handle.
