Symbols on the clock-face:
In the center of the white face there is an image of the US National Flag over the national emblem of Saudi Arabia – two swords in saltire with a palm tree in the upper space between them.
The swords represent the two kingdoms of Nejd and Hijaz, which were united under Ibn Saud in 1926. The palm tree represents the Kingdom’s assets which are defined as its people, heritage, history, and resources, both natural and non-natural. Thus, the palm is shown to be guarded by the two swords, which represent the force to be used in defense of the nation.
Stars and Stripes: the white symbolizes purity and innocence, the red – tenacity and courage, the blue – vigilance, perseverance and justice.
The inscription around the emblem represent the names of military operations in the Gulf war: Desert Shield – Aug. 7, 1990; Desert Storm – Jan. 17, 1991.
At the level of the six-hour point of the face there is a nameplate of the watch factory «Vostok». Beneath it – the inscription “Made in Russia”.
On the back cover (caseback) of stainless steel there is an image of the rays of the rising sun over the water. The embossed inscription on the caseback reads: “WATERPROOF”.
The bracelet is made of genuine leather. The stiffening ribs, stamped on the bracelet, increase its life and make it more comfortable to wear.
Since 1965, this mechanical watch has won recognition and trust due to its high accuracy, surplus stocks of reliability and resistance to environmental stress.
Vostok Komandirskie were designed by Russian engineers for use in extremely harsh environments, where there is often no capacity for competent service of the mechanism. At the core of the watch are a reliable shock resistant mechanism,a dust and waterproof case and a special spherical glass.
During “Operation Desert Storm” U.S. military appreciated the practicality of this watch. Ten thousand copies of Vostok Komandirskie with commemorative symbols were made for the participants of the Operation under Ministry of Defense’s order. These watches are valuable relics, kept today in many American families.
