Glukhar Kizlyar Knife (polished, patterned)

“Glukhar” is the Russian name of a big forest bird – Wood Grouse (Blackcock).

“Glukhar” is also the largest of all the “bird flight” of Kizlyar tourist knives. Compared with its “relatives”, it has the widest blade and the most ergonomic handle with a groove for the index finger.

Product Description

Ergonomics is the most important quality of the Glukhar Kizlyar Knife. The knife fits comfortably in your hand, it feels especially when used in demanding conditions – no pinching, angles or unnatural bends. The finger groove helps to capture the handle at a strict specific position, but without any coercion.

The Glukhar Kizlyar Knife is a camp knife able to fulfill its functions in cooking, woodwork, arrangement of the camp and, if necessary, in self-defense.

The blade of the knife is S-shaped with bevel butt, which is the common feature of the whole “flight”. The blade is slightly tilted towards the handle, which is convenient for use in confined spaces. On the both sides of the blade there is a themed pattern in hunting style.

The handmade sheath of strong genuine leather settles on the belt easily.

Finally, we can say: “Taking the Glukhar Kizlyar Knife in hand, you feel that it’s done for you.”

The knife is not considered a cold arms.

Results of the Glukhar Kizlyar Knife testing based on customer reviews.

The first acquaintance: “Got the knife out of the box and studied it carefully, tried it in the hand. From the first minutes the knife caused positive emotions. Excellent maintanence quality and handling of the blade. On the both sides of the blade there are patterns, even a small landscape – a pair of blackcocks on a meadow (we will find out the resistance of the pattern during the operation). The handle is comfortable to hold, but only with a straight grip (if you want to be able to get both forward and reverse grips at the same time, try the version of the Glukhar Kizlyar Knife with brass hilt, where the handle is made symmetrical).

The rapid test – paper cutting and shaving the hair on the forearm – was conducted immediately. The knife got “A +” for the task. The paper was cut into thin strips without any slightest effort and the forearm easily lost some hairs…

The belt sheath of thick genuine leather (1/8”) with relief pattern is of the highest quality. The knife rests in the sheath tightly and is fixed with a strap with a buckle attached to the suspension of the rivet. Undoing the strap is easy, but one should use both hands to fasten it.”

Kitchen test: “As the experiment was going on, the other knives were confiscated and left the kitchen, and all the members of the household were tasked to cut all products using this knife only. And this turned out to be a great pleasure. The length of the blade is enough even for cutting bread. The slice is light. We tried all sorts of food: sausage, cheese, herring, onions and potatoes. The task was handled perfectly. But peeling potatoes is not very comfortable: the blade is too wide, and the cutting edge ends almost 1/16” to the handle. I tried to open a can of canned corn with the knife – did not work. Well, do not. Finally, there is a special kitchen tool for that.”

Interaction with the environment: “The knife was left in the kitchen for almost a month. And purposefully it was not washed after “aggressive” foods: onions, lemons, apples, etc. This test was also perfectly passed – without a single darkened speck. But the handle slabs have “dragged” the smell of fish and darkened with moisture.”

The knife at hunting and fishing: “I tried to cut a chicken and a pre-salted herring baged in a supermarket. Well, what can I say, the knife was at its best. The cutting was a real piece of cake. Even the chicken bones were a snap.”

Conclusion: “After all the tests passed the pattern on the side faces of the blade remained very persistent. As good as new. I loved the Glukhar knife, and I believe that it could cope with most problems that may arise in a camping trip or on a picnic. Even if you are not a fan of outdoor activities, this knife would be a great helper in the kitchen.”

“Bekas” is the Russian name for the snipe, a wading bird of marshes and wet meadows, with brown camouflaged plumage, a long straight bill, and typically a drumming display flight.

The concave sharpening of the blade helps to achieve a particular fineness and sharpness of the cutting edge. The both sides of the blade perform a thematic “tattoo” in the Russian style.
