Symbols on the clock-face:
At the top of the face, at the level of twelve-hour point, there is a red five-pointed star with a white border – the insignia of the Aviation of the USSR (since 1943) and Russian (until March 2010) Armed Forces.
Above the hands axis there is a composition in the form of a flying bomber Su-24 (NATO reporting name: Fencer), a tanks and walking a missile boat going on the waves. The composition symbolizes the unity of the Air Force, the Army and the Navy.
Below the axis there is a waning Russian tricolor and the of St. Andrew’s flag.
St. Andrew’s flag is the Navy flag of the Russian Empire and modern Russia, аpproved by Tsar Peter I in 1699. The flag is a white background with two blue diagonal stripes forming an oblique cross, which gave the name of St. Andrew’s tj the flag, for it represents the the form of the cross on which the patron saint of Russia St. Andrew the Apostle had martyred.
Russian tricolor symbolizes the following: the white stripe – peace, purity, chastity; the blue – faith, loyalty and truth; the red – constancy, energy, strength, courage and blood shed for the Fatherland.
At the bottom of the face, over the level of the six-hour point, there is a nameplate of the watch factory “Vostok”. Beneath it – the inscription “Made in Russia”.
On the back cover (caseback) of stainless steel there is an image of the Russian Federation State Emblem. It is circumferentially surrounded by embossed inscription detached by two stars: “RUSSIA” “WATERPROOF”.
The bracelet is made of genuine leather. The stiffening ribs, stamped on the bracelet, increase its life and make it more comfortable to wear.
Since 1965, this mechanical watch has won recognition and trust due to its high accuracy, surplus stocks of reliability and resistance to environmental stress.
Vostok Komandirskie were designed by Russian engineers for use in extremely harsh environments, where there is often no capacity for competent service of the mechanism. At the core of the watch are a reliable shock resistant mechanism,a dust and waterproof case and a special spherical glass.
During “Operation Desert Storm” U.S. military appreciated the practicality of this watch. Ten thousand copies of Vostok Komandirskie with commemorative symbols were made for the participants of the Operation under Ministry of Defense’s order. These watches are valuable relics, kept today in many American families.
