The “Gray Wolves” is the nickname and symbol of the 45th Regiment of the Airborne Troops.
The patch contains the image of a baring wolf’s head on the background of an open parachute canopy with stylized widely straightened wings on the both sides.
In the center of the emblem the number of belonging to a particular military unit may be indicated.
The inscription on the perimeter (the text is separated by five-pointed stars) reads “Airborne Troops * of Special purpose”.
On the ceremonial sleeve patch of the regiment there is the motto: “The Strongest Win.” The blue color is a symbol of honor and fidelity.
The 45th Guards Special Purpose Airborne Regiment was formed in February, 1994.
The regiment’s mascot is the wolf – a strong, prideful animal, characterized by amazing strength and endurance. There is a folk saying : “wolves depend on their legs for a living.” The wolves kill not only with the power of their teeth, but mainly with the power of their legs.
A wolf also has a powerful intellect. It is prideful and independent. The wolf’s tactics is a huge number of different tricks and their combinations, a mixture of deceit and force, deception maneuvers and sudden attacks.
Regalia: the Order of Kutuzov, the Order of Alexander Nevsky.
The Motto: “The Strongest Wins”.
Battle path: 1994-1995 – First Chechen War, 1999-2006 – Second Chechen War, 2008 – The operation to force Georgia to peace (five-day war in South Ossetia).
