The sleeve patch is a combination of the three main symbols of the Brigade: a black bat – the tiny emblem of the military intelligence of Russian Armed Forces; a disclosed parachute canopy – the symbol of readiness to conduct combat operations both in the air and on the ground; a flash of lightning – the symbol of righteous anger and heavenly punishment.
The Brigade was formed on January 1, 1963 in the city of Ussuriysk.
More than 200 officers, sergeants and soldiers of the Brigade took part in combat operations in the Republic of Afghanistan as a part of the 334th Special Forces Detachment, dislocated in Asadabad. 12 officers , 36 sergeants and soldiers were killed.
In September 1994, a division of the 14th Brigade (8 men and 2 officers) was on the joint US-Russian exercises in Alaska. The Military base Fort Richardson, 1st Airborne Battalion of the 501st Infantry Regiment (1 BN ABN 501 IN).
Since 1995, as part of the consolidated unit, the Brigade’s soldiers took part in the Chechen Campaign. The total amount of the soldiers who took part in the operations in the North Caucasus is 3916 men. 1330 of them were rewarded for courage and heroism.
