In the Soviet times, the special forces units did not have any distinctive icon or logo. But their unofficial sign became a wolf, or, more precisely, a pack of wolves.
A wolf is a strong, prideful animal, characterized by amazing strength and endurance. There is a folk saying : “wolves depend on their legs for a living.” The wolves kill not only with the power of their teeth, but mainly with the power of his legs.
A wolf also has a powerful intellect. It is prideful and independent. The wolf’s tactics is a huge number of different tricks and their combinations, a mixture of deceit and force, deception maneuvers and sudden attacks.
No other animal in the world might be a better symbol of the special forces.
