In the center, on the background of a golden anchor is an image of a grey wolf which is the emblem of the Brigade and symbolizes its strength and dexterity.
Below is the curly St. George’s ribbon indicating belonging to the Guards. At the top – the combat name of the Brigade.
The elements of the emblem:
The anchor entwined with a rope is the common emblem of the Soviet Marines since 1963.
The wolf is a Slavic symbol of a warrior, fighting evil and destruction.
The Guards ribbon symbolizes the achievements in the strengthening of the defense of the state.
The black and yellow colors of the Guards ribbon mean “smoke and flames” and symbolize personal prowess on the battlefield.
Black is the traditional color of the Marines beret.
The red edging is the hallmark of the Coastal Troops of the Russian Navy.
The 77th Separate Marines Brigade has got its number and the honorary titles as the legacy of the heroic 77th Motorized Rifle Division.
In July 1941, in Moscow, there was formed the 21st Rifle Division of people’s emergency volunteer corps (militia), renamed on August 23, 1941 the 173rd Rifle Division.
For successful battles in Stalingrad, the Division, in March 1943, was transformed into 77th Guards Rifle Division.
For the liberation of Chernigov the Division, on September 21, 1943, was awarded the honorary title “Chernigovskaya”.
On February 19, 1945, the Division was awarded the Order of Lenin for the liberation of Poland.
For the heroism and courage performed, 18,000 soldiers of the Division were marked with awards and medals, 68 of them were awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
The division had “the Company of Heroes” and “the Battalion of Glory” in its staff.
On March 27, 1967, in order to preserve the glorious military traditions of the militia divisions of Moscow, the Division was awarded the honorary title of “Moskovskaya”.
Since November 19, 1999, the Marines were actively involved in the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus. For the courage and heroism performed in combat missions over 300 servicemen were awarded orders and medals of the Russian Federation.
Since December 20, 2004 the 77th Brigade is located in the city of Kaspiysk (Republic of Dagestan).
