The Northern Fleet is the youngest of all the navies of Russia. It was established in 1933. Its aviation even is younger: its birth refers to 1936.
During the Second World War the Northern Fleet aircraft sank more than a hundred of the enemy’s warships, about two hundred transport ships, more than seven hundred small vehicles and ships. Hundreds of thousands of tons of military cargo were sent to the bottom of the sea. In aerial combat 933 enemy aircrafts were shot down, 112 aircrafts were destroyed on the ground.
Continuing the proud tradition of combat marine pilots, we can be sure: if a thunder of new ordeal will strike, the current pilots of the Northern Fleet will not waver and will fulfill their sacred duty to the very end.
