Product Description

The Sleeve Patch represents a fabric patch in the shape of a circle of blue color with green edging.

In the center of the sleeve patch is a heraldic shield with mountain peaks. The shield is placed on the straps of an open white parachute, based on golden soaring wings with a flaming grenade.

At the inner edge of the rim there is an image of the Guards ribbon.

The elements of the emblem symbolize: the mountains – resistance, excellence and eternity; mountain peaks – the dislocation of the division in the North Caucasus; a parachute – a means of delivery of the paratroopers to the battlefield; a flaming grenade is a symbol of best-trained military units of the Russian Army. The parachute and the winged grenade together symbolize the willingness to fight both in the air and on the ground.

The blue color of the rim is a symbol of honor and loyalty. The green edge symbolizes development and growth. Blue and green are the main colors of the Airborne banner.

The black and the yellow colours of the Guards ribbon mean “smoke and flames” and are a sign of personal valor on the battlefield.

During World War II, the division fought its way through Hungary, Austria and Czechoslovakia. The paratroopers show specific fighting skills in the reflection of the superior forces of the SS troops at the Battle of Lake Balaton (Hungary), and at the siezure of Vienna.

The division performed peacekeeping missions in Azerbaijan and Abkhazia.

In 1993, the division was moved from Kaunas to Novorossiysk.

In April, 1995 the paratroopers of the division obtained reflected themselves with the everlasting glory during the assault of a cement plant near Chiri-Yurt (Chechnya), which for was seized within several hours without a loss, after several unsuccessful attempts taken by the motorized infantry units.

The Novorossiysk paratroopers’ landing operations near Vedeno and Shatoy played a key role in the defeating of the Chechen gangs during the first Chechen campaign.
The Novorossiysk paratroopers were the first who stood on the way of Basayev’s and Khattab’s gangs in August 1999. They prevented the bandits’ plans to develop a military success in Dagestan with the subsequent involvement of the republic in a wide war in the Caucasus.
