The sleeve patch of the maroon color – the color of the Special Forces, – in the center of which there is the symbol of all special units of the Internal Troops since the Soviet times – the fist over of the machine gun – showing speed, strength and confidence.
In the background, one after another, there are the State Symbols of Russia – the double-headed eagle on a background of the tri-color flag.
The double-headed eagle on both sides is decorated with the Guards ribbon. The colors of the ribbon – black and yellow – mean “smoke and flames” and are a sign of personal prowess on the battlefield.
Along the perimeter of the sleeve patch there is the inscription: “Special Operations Group.”
On the curly ribbon – the abbreviation “DON” which stands for the “Division of Operational Purpose.”
Over the ribbon there is the name or the squad – “Typhoon.”
The Separate Special Operations Brigade of the North Caucasus Regional Command of the Russian Internal Troops.
The Division was formed on October 1, 1989 in Novocherkassk, on the basis of the Panzer Division of the Ministry of Defense.
The division received its baptism of fire in Nagorno-Karabakh, and then performed combat tasks in the areas of ethnic conflicts.
Since December 1994, it restored the constitutional order in the Chechen Republic, and from the autumn of 1999, participated in counterterrorism operations in the North Caucasus region.
For courage and heroism in the performance of military duty, 12 soldiers were awarded Hero of the Russian Federation.
The structure of the Division includes the Detachment of Special Purpose “Rosich” of Russian Interior Troops.
The Brigade’s servicemen guard public order and ensure the safety in the cities of Novocherkassk and Rostov-on-Don.
