“Invincible offensive impulse, bold manoeuvre and agility, whole-hearted courage and high valour, strong comradeship-in-arms, contempt for death, fierce hatred for the enemy – all this form the power of the glorious Marine Corps!”
The Marines is a sort of coastal corps of the Russian Navy.
The Marines is used on the sea-borne troops for conducting combat operations. Both with the ground forces and independently. Besides, the task of the Marine Corps is to defend the coast (naval bases, ports).
In the Russian army a special unit of the Marine Corps was formed in 1698 of the crew of the battle-ship “Eagle”. After the victory over the Swedes, Peter I decided to create a whole regiment, based on the marine troops of the Baltic Fleet.
Sailors in striped vests and peakless caps fought in the Battle of Borodino and the Crimean War, smashed the Nazi invaders, fought in Angola, Vietnam, Syria , Egypt, Guinea, Afghanistan and Chechnya. Nowadays, the Marines are involved in the fight against Somali pirates.
Automatic small arms, tanks, artillery, anti-tank and anti-aircraft guns, armoured troop carriers are at the disposal of the modern Marine Corps of the Russian Navy.
The Marines Corps are a part of all Russian Fleets – the Northern, the Pacific, the Baltic, the Black Sea and the Caspian Flotilla.Author of the post picture is Leonid Yakutin
