It is a relief emblem of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB): the triangular elongated downward shield with carved top corners and a silvery edging. In the red field of the shield there is a superimposed stylized image of a golden double-headed eagle with raised wings, holding the scepter and orb, topped with a large and two smaller crowns. On the eagle’s chest there is an image of a horseman spearing a dragon.

Therefore the sleeve patch’s emblem is a black shield with a golden edging, at the center of which is the common heraldic symbol of the Russian Interior Ministry (a sword and a shield) supplemented by a double-headed dog looking in different directions.

The patch for the field uniform represents a fabric rhombus stripe with a greenish-brown edging the heraldic emblem of the bodies of the Federal Security Service in the center.
The group of a special purpose “Vityaz” (Hero, Knight) is famous for its traditions. Many of them arose in the years of formation of the first division of the Internal Troops Special Forces.
Exactly since then originates the tradition of awarding of the chest pin badges (decoration) to the servicemen who showed courage and valor while performing combat tasks, achieved high rates in training, successfully passed qualification tests.
“Honorary Officer of KGB” is the highest departmental award of the State Security Committee of the USSR. The last awarding of the pin badge took place in 1990. During the period of its existing award 7,375 people were awarded with it.
The pin badge was awarded to military and civilian personnel of the Committee of State Security (KGB) and the Border Troops for their outstanding achievements in the service, displaying initiative and perseverance.
